Description

Jenny Sages has carved into generous layers of encaustic, enhanced with powdered ochre pigments, to create this landscape representation of a 'gibber desert', which is the Aboriginal term for the hard, fractured effect of harsh desert winds polishing the ground's millions of stones over time. The work evokes the uniqueness of the Australian landscape in a non-traditional way, and without representing a specific scene communicated by specific landmarks. The landscape depicted may be close up or very far away, but either way it still communicates the vastness of the region represented.
