Description

Two small figures are playing in the street - one is on a bicycle while the other looks on. It is a street corner, and the curb travels from the centre of the left side of the canvas to the bottom right. A fence with trees beyond takes up the top half of the painting. The colour and brush style reveal the inspiration of post-impression. It could be said to be in the Italian 'Divisionism' style (1890-1907) which was influenced by the 'Pointillism' of Georges Seurat and was being reported and discussed in the progressive Italian art media before the artist, Anthony Dattilo Rubbo, emigrated to Australia from Italy in 1897.
