Description
The outside body of this cream jug is formed by half an emu egg which is lined, and gilt, with a shaped rim overlap. A looped handle is created by naturalistic tendril and it has a rim spout. It has a silver circular foot, the stem formed by three clustered emu legs and feet. As Alan Landis Antiques, Sydney (specialists in silverware) point out the piece is ‘uniquely Australian’. It is inscribed around the foot ring 'Evan Jones Sydney' for Evan Jones, Sydney, circa 1870. It is possible this piece is ‘en suite’ with a Teapot of similar form, held in the collection of the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.
