Description

In 1902, Will Ashton moved to France and enrolled at the Académie Julian in Paris. Apart from his formal studies, Ashton sketched at weekends in Paris streets or on the banks of the River Seine. The Pont Louis-Philippe is a bridge across the river located in the 4th arrondissement, and it links the Quai de Bourbon on the Île Saint-Louis with the Saint-Gervais neighbourhood on the right bank. The blueish greys of the Parisian light stand in contrast to the brightness of the yellow light in Ashton's paintings of the Australian landscape. The painting has a wooden frame - gesso, gold leaf over painted with gold paint.
