Description

This sculpture is a wooden carved ceremonial figure made out of Ininti wood. This is one of the many semi life size figure of ceremonial men that Billy Petyarre depicts in his art. Billy speaks both Anmatyerre and Alawarre. He is one of the few men in Utopia who works in the medium of wooden sculpture, usually producing semi life size figures of ceremonial men and totem animals. Utopia was named by German settlers in the early 1920s, the region covers approximately 5000 square kilometres of land northeast of Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
